Driving Directions

3km northwest of Gayndah. Turn south-west off Burnett Highway at waypoint and continue for 600m to lake.

Claude Wharton Weir Rest Area is a small circular rest area well away from highway noise. It has good amenities, shade and a boat ramp. Not suitable for large rigs and there is little level ground.
This spot provides good, deep water fishing where you can catch barramundi, bass, yellow belly, silver and spangled perch.

Like other free camps around Gayndah, this is for overnight camping only. Penalty for staying longer.

All travellers, be aware that this site is still shown as an overnight stop in many of the travel guides. We along with three other caravaners stayed there a couple of weeks ago and had our photos taken by someone who drove in at about 8.30pm and then left rapidly after taking the photos. We have no
