The Augathella Rest Area is near the Warrego River and right in the centre of the town. It is also adjacent to some interesting murals depicting the connections to the outback of this community of characters.
Augathella, with its fascinating history of bushrangers, bullockies and bullock teams, has some memorable Outback experiences. It is also synonymous with the classic Australian movie, Smiley. Much of the Smiley story was penned here and indeed, some scenes were also shot in this town.

This is a free camping area approved by Council. It is large and suited to all sized rigs. There is a "No Camping" sign right at the back, but it refers to the area behind the sign.

As well as toilets in the area there is also a set nearby adjacent to the Masonic Hall.

(Info came from locals who said there were 30 rigs a day there in the recent peak season)
