Just 3km S of Capertee is a lookout that has been declassified, as the RTA considers it to be below standard as far as road access is concerned.
It is just a gravel lay-by on the side of the Castlereagh Highway, but there is plenty of room for any size rig. Not exactly level, but you can get around that with some chocks.

The lookout has a rough road going up to it but it is better to walk. And oh, what a view! Stretching out before you is the "world's widest canyon" as you look east across the escarpment.

The best part about it though, is that it has very good mobile phone reception. Given the terrain around here, there are few places where you can get anything more than a whisper of signal. This place is the exception.
