Gins Leap Rest Area is adjacent to the road with some shade. It is easy to spot the rest area which has a very large aloe vera plant in the middle of the turnaround, a relic of the past history.
There is an information sign describing history and naming of the rest area giving the names and dates associated with the vault, built in 1892 where some of the members of the Grover family lie.

The accepted origins of the Gins Leap name follow the tragic death of a pair of ill fated young aboriginal lovers. The young girl, promised to an elder of her tribe Kamilaroi, ran away with a young aboriginal man from another tribe. Pursued by Kamilaroi tribesmen, the lovers jumped to their deaths from somewhere along the top of this rock.
