The Mulligan Highway passes through a rugged mountainous area south of Lakeland. Here, the James Earl Lookout offers free overnight stay with views over the Byestown Range.
This is not a camping area. It is a small lookout with space for 3 or 4 rigs and a few cars. Yes people do overnight here but courtesy says you arrive late and leave early as it's busy all day with people wanting to take in the view.

Only just a short drive south from Lakeland Downs. Top spot for coffee break, lunch, overnighter or just to take in the view.
