Lake Batyo Catyo is a shallow lake that forms part of a wetland chain, known as the Avon Plains Lakes. It is also a popular recreational location. There is no water in the lake.
The wetland system is home to many birds. It provides important nesting and breeding grounds, and is used by migratory birds. Since the lake dried up, some species may no longer visit.

Activities which the lake supports include bird watching, bushwalking and camping.

Since 2012 when the decision by council was taken to no longer have a caretaker on site, the place has become neglected and overgrown.

The amenities block is still operational but there is no power or gas connected, so there are no lights and the showers are cold. The water is still connected and most of the hose connecter taps around the park work. Water quality is unknown.

This is a wonderful "back to nature" location where the air is clean and the birds and animals are friendly. Chances are you will be the only one here.

This spot is a bit out of the way, but it is something special. It used to be a managed campground but it is now free. Free power available from a couple of the outlets. If you have a long enough lead or BYO generator, the laundry is still useable. No water in the lake and never will be again.
