Lake Johnston Camping Area is a free camp site with toilet, wood fired BBQ and picnic tables. There is plenty of room but little shade.
Lake Johnston is part of an ancient river system, now reduced to a chain of ponds due to reduced rainfall and rising temperatures. It dries up during drought periods, but after rain, it explodes with life as brine shrimp and other crustaceans hatch to continue their life cycle.

This sudden surge of life attracts many species of water birds such as waders, to the area, where they gorge themselves on a feast.
