Lake McLeod Rest Area is a spacious, popular free overnighter on the western side of the highway. The sparse scrubby trees provide no useful shade, on this level gravel drive through configuration rest area.
There is plenty of red dust in this rest area, which is close to road with some traffic noise. Avoid driving in this area after dark – a lot of free grazing cattle.
