Lake Moondarra Picnic Area is popular with Mount Isa locals as a peaceful fishing and picnic area. There is a boat ramp and the lake is an excellent water skiing venue.
Lake Moondarra is an artificial lake on the Leichhardt River, 16 km downstream from Mount Isa. It provides water to the town and the adjacent Mount Isa Mines.

Construction began on the Leichhardt Dam in 1956, and was completed at the end of 1958.
