Located between Mitchell and Morven, Mungalla is a very small town with a sawmill. The sawmill is the only reason for the town's existence. It mills cypress pine which is harvested from the natural growth forests north of the town.
I went to school in Mungallala for a few months when I was a young camel. I had this scout belt with two heavy pocket knives hanging off the belt, that I was very attached to. Each day I would wear them to school, even though they served no useful purpose and were heavy and cumbersome.

That was over 50 years ago. The sawmill was the reason for the existence of the town back then and it still is today. There are vast natural forests of Cypress Pine growing about 80km north of Mungallala and these are harvested under the regulation of the State Forestry Department. The timber is used for building products.
