Just a short drive from here to the Visitors Centre. Turn left at T junction. Continue for 450m and then turn right.
The Mungo National Park Main Campground is where you stay if you are visiting the Mungo National Park and the Walls of China.
This is a great National Park campground. The sites are widely spaced out and there are quite a lot of trees. Good toilets with solar lighting. Inhabited by very tame roos and emus.
Set in a very ancient land which has been inhabited for at least 50,000 years, it was here at Lake Mungo that much of the evidence supporting this fact was discovered.
More recently, in the 19th and 20th centuries this was a sheep station and the remains of the old shearing shed still stands. It is well worth a look.
The award winning Mungo Aboriginal Discovery Tours are conducted by rangers from the three tribal groups of the Willandra Lakes region. Aboriginal Discovery Tours are the best way to learn about Mungo National Park and its ancient heritage, from the Aboriginal people who have lived in the landscape for 45,000 years.
