Pildappa Rock is place well worth visiting. It is a combination of Wave Rock and a miniature Ayres Rock. There are a couple of camping area around the rock.
Pildappa Rock is an unusual formation off the usual tourist route. It is well worth a stop over. The rock is easily accessible and can be climbed by most people with a little care. Do not go too close to the edge at the top if you are a little unsure of your footing or have problems with heights.

The dirt road in from Minnipa is a graded sandy gravel road, but easily travelled with care. Take your time and enjoy the drive. Facilities are minimal, but toilets, free gas BBQ's and shelters with seating are provided at both camp areas. There is shade at both camp areas on the north and south sides of the rock, with the north side being the larger area of the two.

There is no mobile phone signalon the northern side, but there is a weak signal on the southern side.

Pildappa rock is a lovely place to camp but not in summer. The rock stores the heat and you can feel it radiating during the night. There is tank water if it has been raining – best to boil it first or take your own.

A donation can be placed in the box at the north side camp area to help with the upkeep of the area. Please donate as it is well worth the small investment to keep this area available to the public.

We have been to Pildappa twice. Camped once with our kids back in 2006 and they had a great time scaling the rock. It was a peaceful campsite and we enjoyed the views over the surrounds. Second visit was just a lunch break after camping in the Gawler Ranges - still a great spot and will return.

This rock is a stark reminder of the power of nature and what erosion can do over a few million years. We visited this rock October 2014, neat clean area with reasonably level sites. The road in is dusty but easy for a normal 2wd and on road van. Highly recommended you take a look.
