The Quilpie Visitor Information Centre is a very useful resource and the staff bend over backwards to help visitors with information about the area. This is particularly helpful if you are venturing out to do some opal prospecting.
The other place you should go for opal prospecting information is the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) or the mines office. The Information Centre will tell you where they are.
