Summer Hill Rest Area is a convenient day rest spot on the south side of Orange, on the Mitchell Highway southbound. It has a rough bitumen surface. Unhook your rig and leave it here if you need to go shopping in Orange.
There is no doubt that Orange is one of the least friendly cities for RVs in New South Wales, rivalled only by the likes of Coffs Harbour. It is difficult to find a day parking spot if you are towing a caravan, as most of the parking is 45ยบ angle parking and the parallel parking that is available rarely provides sufficient room for a rig.

So unhooking at this spot is probably the best option.

Care should be taken if entering or leaving when travelling towards Orange, as the visibility on the highway is reduced by the curve in the road, which has double lines here.

The ground isn't very level so it is wise to chock the caravan if leaving it parked here, so you don't rely only on the parking brake.
