Driving Directions

Be sure to use the Waypoint GPS coordinates, as the destination coordinates in some navigators will take you to the wrong side of the river.

The Shanty Reserve Camping Area is a magnificent spot on the bank of the Murrumbidgee River, under the gnarled old river gums.
It is just you, the river and the big old gum trees here. No facilities whatsoever. Throw in a line and haul in dinner, or just laze on the river bank watching the world go by.

The road into the reserve is dirt and becomes bottomless after rain. Do not camp under the river gums as they can drop large limbs without warning. No bins provided, so bag and bin at the next fuel stop.

There can be quite a swift current in the river at times, so be careful if contemplating swimming.

The dirt road just inside the reserve isn't too bad (in the dry) but in the camping area they're quite bad. Larger rigs & city caravans should not go beyond the grass triangle at the beginning of the camping area....identified by a large dead tree and one concrete BBQ.. just before u see the river.
