The Eyre Peninsula of South Australia lies within the triangle formed by joining the points of Port Augusta, Port Lincoln and Ceduna. It is roughly the size of Tasmania with about 2,000km of coastline.

Eyre Waterhole Rest Area is a roomy gravel rest area on the Flinders Highway, just south of Streaky Bay. This is an historic site where the explorer John Eyre camped. So if you stay here you are camping in his footsteps.

Locks Well is a surf beach on the Southern Ocean, with a staircase that leads right down to the beach. Caravans and buses are restricted to the top carpark, Which is a level solid gravel surface, with a great view over the ocean.

The Gums Rest Area Kimba is a popular rest area, with clean toilet facilities and a free electric BBQ. The park is located on the heavy vehicles bypass route so there can be quite a bit of noise from the road trains passing through.

Ceduna is the gateway to the west and the Nullarbor crossing. In the early days of satellite communications, it was one of only a couple of land stations in Australia, which sent and received signals to and from the satellites.
The Eyre Peninsula is remote and isolated from the main population centres in the nation and has kept is clean environmental status. Low population levels mean low levels of pollution. This gives it a unique place in food production and tourism.
The area is not completely devoid of heavy industry however, with iron ore mining at Iron Knob and shipbuilding at Whyalla.
