Tour operators provide day trips in 4X4 buses to the eastern side of the island where you can stop for lunch at one of the luxury resorts.
Hervey Bay is a destination in its own right and the place where you go to join the many charter boats operating here. They provide whale watching tours of varying duration from an hour to a full day. There are regular ferries across to Fraser Island for both people and vehicles.
The dingoes on Fraser Island are the only remaining pure bred dingoes in Australia. These beautiful animals are feeling the pressure of tourism and there have been instances of attacks on humans, especially children. Do not feed or approach the dingoes under any circumstance. Heavy penalties apply.
