Riverland Camping

Riverland stretches from the Victorian Border to Blanchetown in South Australia. The region is a rich fruit growing area, producing citrus, wine and almonds.
The Murray River is the lifeblood of much of the populated areas in South Australia and the Murray River supplies not only irrigation water, without which there would be no farming, but also the domestic water supplies for towns along the river and beyond.
Pipelines carry potable water to communities hundreds of kilometres from the river.

- Information
Tourism is an important industry for the Riverland region. We are all familiar with images of paddle boats plying their way up and down the river. Once this was the main form of transport through to the port at Goolwa near the mouth of the Murray, but these days the paddle boats carry passengers for day trips and week long holidays.
Fishers, water skiers and canoeists also enjoy the ever changing scenery along hundreds of kilometres of river, with the striking red or white cliffs to the semi-arid floodplains covered with mallee and saltbush. The magic sunsets will have you reaching for the camera.
As the region relies heavily on fruit growing, the area is jealously protected from fruit fly invasion. There are heavy penalties for bringing uncertified fruit into the area. Be sure that when you enter this region, you have eaten or disposed of all of your fruit, including tomatoes and capsicums. When fruit is purchased locally, keep the shopping receipt as proof that the fruit you are carrying was purchased in the region.
